Time continues to fly by. Do not think I have been idle since the first of the month when I last posted. There was a trip to Florida to visit friends and family, the beach, and to join in the frenzy of shopping and eating out that Florida seems to always entail. I missed a snowfall while I was basking on the beach (oh darn!), but came home to warmer weather which has once more teased the fruit trees into flowering a tad prematurely. After two weeks of unseasonably warm weather we are now plunged back into the last dregs of winter....night time temps in the 20's, snow forecast for later this week, and the wild winds of spring torturing all the allergy sufferers among us (thankfully I am not one of them yet).
Lured by the spring-like temperatures last week I gave in and dug up stones and slung the pick axe and shovel like a field hand in order to make a little corner vegetable garden in my back yard. To protect it from my veggie loving dogs - yes, they do love veggies, they are strange dogs, but loveable - I had to figure out how to build a fence and put it up right away. I did this, and more. Tomatoes and broccoli, rosemary, basil, parsley, and thyme are in pots inside waiting for warmer weather. Seedlings have been started: bush beans and sugar snap peas. And in the ground: onions are growing alongside chard, kale, spinach, shelling peas and fava beans. It's beginning to feel a little out of control. To fully understand this you'd have to know A.) the size of the garden plot I actually have (tiny), B.) my knowledge and experience level (minimal), and C.) the number of seeds and seedlings I have going (too many). I want to live in the country!
All the gardening has cut down on craft activity, but I have done some spinning, have plied the spun wool with some bamboo lace weight yarn to good effect and hope to come up with an idea of what to do with it soon.
I have attempted to upload some pics to illustrate these exciting events and activities but they are taking far too long and I am tired. Will try again tomorrow.
Photos to follow when work allows me time to do it.
